In 2007, SpaceX announced a deal with Tesla Motors to develop long-range battery packs using large numbers of lithium-ion cells. Because of their lightweight design and proven energy capacity in batteries, SpaceX turned to an aluminum-titanium alloy for part of its component design. What is titanium? Titanium (Ti) is a silver white metal that belongs to Group 4 (IVB) on the periodic table and is abundant in Earth's crust.
It has excellent corrosion resistance, strength characteristics, and lightweight. It is 60% heavier than aluminum, but 45% lighter than steel of comparable strength. Not only that, but it also has exceptional fatigue resistance for high vibration applications and can get worked by a variety of fabrication techniques including forging, rolling and machining (EDM).

It makes up 80-90% of meteors that fall to Earth, but most of it burns up when entering our atmosphere.
