ECHEMI 2022-05-05

Another name for benzoic acid depends on the composition of benzoic acid. Benzoic acid is a phenol. It is a white solid with the chemical formula C7H6O2. The compound derives its name from its benzenoid odor. Benzoic acid can be found in many plants and foods such as cranberries, prunes, strawberries and apples to name but a few, along with many medicinally important aromatic compounds such as cinnamic acid and salicylic acid.

1.Hyophen

This is another name for benzoic acid. Hyopen is C7H6O2. The molar mass of hyrophen is 150.11 g/mol, and it can be found in cranberries, prunes, apples and strawberries. Hyophen has a pKa value of 4.77

2.Hydroxybenzene

Another name for Benzoic acid is hydroxbenzene. This compound can be found in cranberries, prunes, apples and strawberries as well as many medicinally important aromatic compounds such as cinnamic acid and salicylic acid .The molecular formula of hydroxybenzene is HC7H6O2. The molecular mass of hydroxybenzene is 140.13 g/mol.

3.Methylphen

This compound can be found in cranberries, prunes, apples and strawberries as well as many medicinally important aromatic compounds such as cinnamic acid and salicylic acid. The molecular formula for methylphen is HC7H6O2. The molecular mass of methylphen is 144.32 g/mol.

4.phenyl salicylate

This is another name for benzoic acid. This compound can be found in cranberries, prunes, apples and strawberries as well as many medicinally important aromatic compounds such as cinnamic acid and salicylic acid. The molecular formula of phenyl salicylate is C7H6O2. The molecular mass of phenyl salicylate is 150.11 g/mol

5.hyoscyamine

This acid is also known as Hysenal and Hyoscamine. This compound can be found in cranberries, prunes, apples and strawberries as well as many medicinally important aromatic compounds such as cinnamic acid and salicylic acid. The molecular formula for hyoscyamine is C7H6O2. The molecular mass of hyoscyamine is 150.11 g/mol

6.oxo-phenol

This is another name for benzoic acid. This compound can be found in cranberries, prunes, apples and strawberries as well as many medicinally important aromatic compounds such as cinnamic acid and salicylic acid. The molecular formula of oxo-phenol is C7H6O2. The molecular mass of oxo-phenol is 150.11 g/mol

Uses of benzoic acid

1.Food preservatives

Benzoyl chloride is used as a food preservative. It is an antiseptic and disinfectant and is used to prevent bacteria from damaging the food. Benzoyl chloride prevents the growth of bacteria by inactivating their enzyme by destroying its active site. Benzoyl chloride also prevents mold growth on spoiled foods by preventing fungal spores from germinating, causing the growth of molds to be inhibited. Benzoyl chloride can reduce the number of yeast cells required to make bread rise by 58% when used in bread formulas. It also improves the appearance of bread dough and makes it softer, resistant to bloating, and helps the dough keep its shape during production.

2.Medicinal agent

Some medicinal agents contain benzoic acid as one of their components. These medicinal agents are mostly used as anti-perspirants or antiperspirants. Benzoyl chloride, which contains a benzoic acid, is used in some treatments as an antiseptic. Benzoic acid and salts of benzoic acid are used as active ingredients in medicines to treat psoriasis and acne rashes. Benzosulphonic acid is also one of the medicaments that contain benzoic acid as its main constituent. The latter has been shown to stop allergic reactions, help promote wound healing and prevent certain cancers such as leukemia in humans.

3.Insecticide

Benzoyl chloride is a natural insecticide that is used for controlling flies, mosquitoes and fleas. In some countries, this compound is applied to the leaves of wild animals such as deer and moose. This compound has been shown to be effective against whiteflies and mites on plants in the field when sprayed on their leaves. It also provides protection against chinch bugs which can cause damage to a vegetable crop. Benzoic acid can be used as an insect repellent that is applied orally on exposed skin or as a solution in water for sprinkling around buildings or on plants, as it produces foul odors that repel insects. It has also been reported to be effective against the growth of certain fungi that destroy certain crops and other plants.

4.Skin care products

Benzoyl peroxide is the most common, commercially available source of benzoic acid, which can be found in some skin care products. These skincare products are applied to the skin to help prevent acne as they can digest dead cells and other oils that accumulate on the surface of the skin. Benzoic acid is also an oxidizing agent. It breaks down into benzoate and oxygen when applied topically on the skin or added to cosmetic solutions.

Inconclusions, Benzoic acid is a small organic compound that is derived from benzene. Benzoyl chloride, which comprises of benzoic acid as one of its components, is used in some medicinal treatments to help fight psoriasis, acne and other skin conditions. It can also be used as an anti-bacterial agent and insecticide.
