Japan's Big Three to Build Hydrogen and Ammonia Supply Bases in Kanagawa
Japanese energy companies Nippon Stone, Gera and JFE will study options for establishing a hydrogen and ammonia gas reception and supply base in the Keihin area of Kanagawa Prefecture.
The three parties have signed a memorandum of understanding and have begun detailed discussions on the possibility of developing the supply project in Kanagawa Prefecture.
The development of hydrogen and ammonia as next-generation clean fuels that do not emit carbon dioxide during combustion is underway. In order to consume these fuels on a large scale in power plants, it is necessary to establish large-scale reception and supply bases near areas of high demand.
In the Keihin area, the center of the Kanto region with high energy demand, Nippon Stone has refineries and factories. Gera also has thermal power plants and LNG terminals. Additionally, JFE is working with the City of Kawasaki to repurpose the land.
