Bayer/MSD Verixiguat Approved in China to Treat Heart Failure

On May 19, the official website of China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) announced that the innovative therapy vericiguat (Verquvo) jointly developed by Bayer and Merck & Co. (MSD) has been approved by priority review. Marketed for symptomatic chronic heart failure in stable adult patients with reduced ejection fraction (ejection fraction <45%) after recent heart failure decompensated intravenous therapy to reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure or the need for emergency IV diuretics risks of treatment.

 

Vericiguat is a soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator that increases intracellular cGMP levels by directly stimulating sGC, thereby relaxing smooth muscle and dilating blood vessels. The launch of this drug provides a new treatment option for adult patients with symptomatic chronic heart failure.
