The Trial Production of Pingmei Shenma PC Unit was Successful, and the Second Phase Project of 240,000 Tons of Bisphenol A was Launched

ECHEMI 2022-05-19

On May 13, in the production plant of Pingmei Shenma Group Polycarbonate Material Company located in the Advanced Manufacturing Development Zone of Yexian County, Henan Province, as the county party secretary Xu Yanjie issued an order for the first batch of PC (polycarbonate material) particles, the workers began to Load the packs of PC particles onto the car with a forklift. The first batch of PC particles shipped is 150 tons, which will be packed into 5 trucks and then sent to 4 provinces (autonomous regions) including Shandong and Guangxi.

The PC project adopts the phosgene interface polycondensation production process of KBR Company in the United States, with a planned total production capacity of 400,000 tons, of which the first phase is a 100,000-ton/year PC project, supporting a 130,000-ton/year bisphenol A project. The total investment of the first phase project 3.95 billion yuan, which is a provincial key project. Construction will start in March 2020, and in October 2021, the PC production line will be commissioned. On April 23, the first phase of the project opened up all the technological processes.

The 130,000-ton Bisphenol A plant of Pingmei Shenma Phase I has been completed and put into operation at the end of 2021. At the same time as the commissioning of the production line of the PC Phase I project, the Phase II project with an annual output of 240,000 tons of Bisphenol A has been launched. The project was launched in February this year. It has passed the energy-saving review of the Pingdingshan Development and Reform Commission and is planned to be put into operation in July 2023.

Polycarbonate (PC)

PC is polycarbonate, which is one of the five general engineering plastics with good light transmittance and impact resistance. The global annual PC material consumption is about 5 million tons, of which China accounts for nearly half. The main downstream application areas are electronic appliances, sheet metal and automobiles, and these three industries account for about 80% of polycarbonate consumption. However, due to high technical barriers, my country's PC material industry is small in scale and has long been dependent on imports, especially in Henan Province.

PC is made of chlorine gas generated in the process of salt chemical industry as raw material, which not only effectively breaks the development bottleneck of insufficient chlorine consumption in upstream industries, but also adds "new talents" to the salt chemical industry family, thereby extending the industrial chain and making it stronger support the entire industry.

Domestic polycarbonate production capacity will exceed 3 million tons / year

In 2020, the global PC production capacity is about 5.88 million tons/year, my country's PC production capacity is 1.94 million tons/year, and the output is about 960,000 tons. In 2020, my country's apparent consumption of polycarbonate will reach 2.34 million tons, and there will be nearly 1.38 million tons. The gap needs to be imported from foreign countries. The huge market demand has attracted a lot of investment to increase production. It is estimated that there are many PC projects under construction and proposed in China at the same time, and the domestic production capacity will exceed 3 million tons per year in the next three years.
