BASF deploys innovation in agriculture
Recently, BASF announced its layout in the agricultural field in the next 10 years. The company will focus on improving the planting income of major crops, including wheat, rapeseed, soybean, corn, cotton, rice and fruits and vegetables. For these major crops, BASF will continue to innovate in its entire product line, including seeds and traits, seed treatment, biological and chemical crop protection, and digital farming solutions, and plans to launch these products in all business regions within 10 years.
BASF expects peak sales of the company's agricultural technology innovation projects to exceed 7.5 billion euros. In 2021, BASF will invest about 900 million euros in research and development of agricultural technology innovation, accounting for 11% of the annual business revenue of the Agricultural Solutions Division. In 2022, BASF will continue to maintain high investment in agricultural technology innovation.
For crop rotation systems in key business areas, BASF will provide customized products, technologies and services to help growers cope with challenging environmental conditions. In the European market, BASF combines hybrid wheat with crop protection and digital tools to protect biodiversity; in Latin America, BASF provides growers with diversified and customized soybean innovation solutions to achieve precision medicine and improve farmland use efficiency; In the North American market, BASF uses innovative technologies to help canola farmers improve climate resilience; in the Asian market, BASF provides climate-smart solutions for rice production to reduce agricultural carbon emissions. Combined with BASF's digital approach, rice farmers can reduce carbon emissions by up to 50 percent per ton of rice produced. BASF supports the localization and greenhouse production of food with innovative technologies for vegetable seeds and biological crop protection.
