Evonik and SI Coatings collaborate on waterborne primers for polyamide coatings

In cooperation with SI Coatings, a company of the Huehoco Group in Wuppertal, Germany, Evonik has developed a water-based primer based on VESTOSINT® polyamide 12 powder for the preparation of steel in the fluidized bed coating process. Polyamide coatings provide corrosion protection to metals, so they need to be applied uniformly to ensure that they do not peel, water, and scratches from the outside for long-term protection. Evonik's VESTOSINT® polyamide 12 powder for fluid bed coating processes has proven its excellent properties in practical applications for many years. Previously, steel parts with large surface areas, especially concave parts, were pre-finished with a solvent-containing primer to ensure excellent adhesion, for example, in contact with water.

Talking about the opportunity of this cooperation, Dominic Störkle, Head of Product Line Additive Manufacturing and Materials Solutions at Evonik, said: "The concept of environmental protection is embedded in Evonik's corporate strategy. We hope to jointly develop a product based on Evonik's VESTOSINT ® water-based primer for polyamide powder."
