China is expected to achieve a number of sustainable development goals

The United Nations held a 2030 Summit on sustainable development at headquarters in New York 24. Speaking at the meeting, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of foreign affairs, as special envoy of chairman Hu, said: "development is the eternal pursuit of human society. The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda opens a new chapter in global development cooperation. We shoulder the heavy responsibility of not leaving anyone behind.

It pointed out that we should truly pay attention to the concerns of developing countries and promote the coordinated development of our economy, environment and society. We should firmly support multilateralism and support the United Nations to play a central role in the international system. Effective actions should be taken to deepen the global partnership for development.

It said China adheres to the people-oriented concept and implements the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing, and striving to achieve high quality development. China regards sustainable development as the basic national policy and comprehensively and thoroughly implements the agenda for 2030.

He said, "China is determined to win the battle against poverty, which has reduced poverty by more than 13 million people in 6 consecutive years and contributed more than 70% to the global poverty reduction". "China will eradicate absolute poverty next year and achieve the first sustainable development goal 10 years ahead of schedule".

He says China advocates education as its foundation. "In 2017, the global school dropout rate for children and adolescents was close to 20%, while the completion rate of primary and junior high school education in China was close to 100%.

He said that China is speeding up the construction of "healthy China" and basically achieving universal coverage. "In 2018, infant and maternal mortality dropped to 61 per 1,000 and 1.83 per 10,000, respectively, in order to achieve the relevant sustainable development goals ahead of time."

It pointed out that China has comprehensively promoted land greening operations. Since 2012, nearly 70 thousand square kilometers of afforestation have been completed every year, more than 30 thousand square kilometers of desertified land have been harnessing, and 1/4 of the newly increased green areas in the world come from China from 2000 to 2017.

He said, "we clearly realize that China is still a developing country. The problem of unbalanced development and insufficient development is still outstanding. There is still a big gap between developed countries and China."

He said at last that China will promote the construction of "one belt and one road", increase investment in South South cooperation, promote common development in open cooperation, and build a community of human destiny. The "world dream" described in the 2030 sustainable development agenda is closely linked to the "Chinese dream" of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. China will work together with the international community to achieve the goal of 2030 sustainable development and create a better future for mankind.
