At present, there are three characteristics in the development of PVC industry

At the third China International chlor alkali conference held recently, Mr. Yan Jian, deputy general manager and deputy general manager of logistics industry of Xinjiang Tianye Co., Ltd., said: the current situation of PVC with the method of calcium carbide in China mainly has three characteristics. He introduced that PVC is a kind of polymer synthetic material with high cost performance and wide application. The production process is mainly divided into petroleum, ethylene process and calcium carbide acetylene process. At present, most countries mainly use petroleum ethylene process, while China mainly uses petroleum acetylene process due to the lack of oil and gas. The current situation of PVC by calcium carbide process in China mainly has three characteristics: the first production capacity is growing rapidly, and the operating rate is seriously insufficient. Before 2003, China's PVC industry was basically in the stable development period of ethylene process and calcium carbide process, and the domestic production was only able to meet 50% of the demand. In 2003, due to the anti-dumping of imported PVC and the rising price of international crude oil, the PVC industry of calcium carbide process in China entered a period of rapid growth. From 2003 to 2013, the average annual growth rate reached 14%.
To 2013, China's PVC production capacity reached 24.76 million tons, with a production capacity of 15.3 million tons, including 20.3 million tons of PVC produced by calcium carbide process, with both production capacity and production accounting for more than 80%. In 2013, China has 93 PVC production enterprises, in fact, there are about 80 carbide process enterprises, 33 enterprises with production capacity of more than 300000 tons, and the proportion of production capacity reaches more than 70%. There are three enterprises with a production capacity of 1 million tons in China, and all of them are PVC production enterprises by calcium carbide method. The industrial concentration and scale efficiency have been shown. At the same time of the rapid growth of production capacity, the operating rate of PVC industry in China is on the decline. Since 2005, the operating rate has not exceeded 70%, which shows the operating rate and production in recent years. In 2009, it reached 51% of the lowest level, and began to pick up year by year in the past five years. In 2013, the operating rate was only 62%. The second situation is that the quality of PVC by calcium carbide method is improving and the quality gap between PVC and ethylene method is narrowing. For a long time, due to the small production scale, backward technical level and poor enterprise strength, the product quality of PVC plant by calcium carbide process has always been lagging behind that by petroleum ethylene process, which also affects the improvement of the overall PVC product quality in China. In recent years, with the progress of PVC technology by calcium carbide process and the development and application of expected automatic control technology, the quality of PVC by calcium carbide process has basically met the requirements of PVC by ethylene process, especially for large PVC enterprises by calcium carbide process, whose product quality has been completely comparable to that of PVC by ethylene process, and the domestic PVC by calcium carbide process has also been recognized by the majority of customers in the international market, and exported to more than 100 countries in the world. Therefore, the product quality of calcium carbide PVC has been fundamentally improved, occupying the market mainstream in the low-end field, and the expansion of high-end field has also made positive progress.
The third feature of is that the bottleneck of environmental protection is solved continuously, which provides guarantee for long-term development. In recent years, through joint efforts, China's PVC production enterprises have made breakthroughs in the three cost management, solved the bottleneck of environmental protection, and established a clean production mode, which has won a certain space for the development of PVC by calcium carbide process. In the aspect of comprehensive utilization of carbide slag, carbide slag cement technology has made a breakthrough in China. At present, large-scale PVC production enterprises with carbide process are basically equipped with carbide slag cement devices. At the same time, the comprehensive utilization of carbide slag also presents a trend of diversified development, and the technology of carbide slag desulfurization has been rapidly promoted. For China's PVC enterprises with calcium carbide process, calcium carbide slag is no longer the burden of environmental protection for the development of enterprises, and has become a new profit growth point for enterprises. In terms of waste treatment, since 2012, domestic large-scale PVC enterprises of calcium carbide process have made new breakthroughs in calcium carbide furnace gas, which not only solves environmental protection, but also further enhances market competitiveness. At present, mercuric chloride catalyst is still used in PVC production process by calcium carbide method, and mercury pollution is a great challenge. According to the requirements of the Convention for PVC enterprises of calcium carbide process in China, by 2020, the mercury consumption per unit of PVC products will be reduced by 50% compared with that in 2010. The Chinese government and enterprises attach great importance to and have taken active actions. The key technology of mercury pollution has been successfully developed and rapidly promoted in the industry. PVC enterprises of calcium carbide process in China can fully perform according to the Convention and requirements.
