EU evaluates the effectiveness of calcium formate on animal feed additives

ECHEMI 2020-05-08

Recently, the European Union Food Safety Authority (EFSA) released the evaluation results of the effectiveness of calcium formate as a technical feed additive for all animal species.

In 2015, the EU Animal Feed Additives and Products (FEEDAP) group expressed opinions on the safety and efficacy of ammonium formate, calcium formate and sodium formate as technical additives (preservatives) for all animal species. The highest concentration of calcium formate is 10000mg formic acid equivalent / kg full-price feed, which is safe for all animal species (except pigs, the highest concentration in pig feed is 12000mg formic acid equivalent / kg full-price feed is safe), and it is The people and the environment are safe.

After evaluation, the expert group concluded that calcium formate may be effective as a preservative in all animal species feed. Due to the lack of data, the evaluation team was unable to draw conclusions about the efficacy of using this additive in drinking water.
