The VOC content of water-based paint must be controlled below the national standard. The VOC content of water-based paint can be less than 50g or even lower. The cost of waterborne coatings is higher. On the one hand, the raw material cost of waterborne coatings is higher. On the other hand, spectral analysis of various components, heavy metals, etc. are also the difficulties in the promotion of waterborne coatings. From the research and development to the practical application, if the real water-based coating achieves the same performance as the oil-based paint, the cost will be higher than the existing oil-based paint products.

For water-based paint, thick coating is difficult. The film thickness required by onshore wind power is 240um inside and 280um outside; the film thickness of offshore wind power is 280um inside and 320um outside, which is really difficult for water-based coating. If the thick coating is forced, the dry film thickness is relatively high, and there must be multiple coating processes, and the solid content of the coating is required to increase, but the high solid content of the water-based paint is difficult, the solid content of the primer and intermediate paint can meet the requirements, the solid content of the top coat can now reach 50%, it is difficult to exceed 60%, and the solid content of 50% can be applied with a dry film thickness of about 20-30um, if the requirement of the top coat is 120um, at least 3-4 Dao, not only the cost of coating products is high, but also the labor cost in the construction process is high. The performance and equipment of water-based coatings are upgraded together to promote the industrial development of water-based coating products. The support of raw material enterprises is needed to improve the scratch resistance and hardness of water-based coating film by improving the performance of raw materials. The spraying equipment of water-based coating also needs to be upgraded, such as electrostatic spraying, solvent-free spraying, etc., which can greatly improve the utilization rate of coating.
