Four new cases have been confirmed by BASF

ECHEMI 2020-04-13

After novel coronavirus pneumonia was confirmed by staff at BASF headquarters in Ludwigshafen, a BASF spokesman said in March 25th that two employees and two contract workers working in BASF Geismar factory were positive for COVID-19 tests. So far, BASF has diagnosed 5 people worldwide. BASF said that since the four workers began self isolation more than a week ago, BASF has been closely monitoring the situation.

Blythe LaMonica, BASF's senior communications manager, said medical staff had informed all workers who might have contacted four covid-19 positive workers. Those in direct contact with four coronavirus positive workers are already in self isolation, and as of March 25, no one else has been reported positive for the virus. BASF said the areas where infected people work have been deeply cleaned.

Meanwhile, BASF's on-site medical team has been and will continue to be in contact with employees and contractors' companies. During the pandemic, BASF said it operated according to local, state and federal government guidelines and developed a pandemic response plan. At present, more than 45% of BASF's employees work at home, and the geismar plant has reduced contract work by 47%. BASF said it had restricted access to the facility, checked the temperature of workers, urged staff to keep a distance, disinfected buses and work areas and implemented "health enhancing measures."

The novel coronavirus pneumonia was introduced into Muenster factory in Germany, Hitt Rupp and Wuerzburg several days ago, due to the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia outbreak. The weak automobile market novel coronavirus pneumonia has affected the output of chemical enterprises, including paints, plastics, man-made fibers and additives. This is the fundamental reason for BASF to shorten working hours and reduce production. A spokesman for BASF said that there is no plan to shorten office hours at its headquarters in Ludwigshafen, and more information about the work will be released soon. Novel coronavirus pneumonia has been diagnosed in the world by more than 600 thousand cases at 4:26 am (4:26 Beijing time).

On March 17, BASF said that the annual meeting of the company, which was scheduled to be held on April 30, would be postponed due to the impact of the epidemic, and the specific time would depend on the trend of the epidemic. With an investment of US $87 million, the expansion project of MDI device at the gasma plant in Louisiana may be affected.
