Vertigo or vestibular system vertigo is a disorder of the body's sense of orientation or balance in spatial relationships. It is an illusion or hallucination of one's own or external motion. During an attack, most patients feel that the objects around them are spinning, and a few patients experience visual swaying or shaking (heterokinetic vertigo). They may also experience themselves rotating, tipping, sinking, or shaking on a certain plane (autokinetic vertigo). Clinically, it can be divided into vestibular system vertigo (true vertigo) and non-vestibular system vertigo (dizziness), and the causes are relatively complex.
