After a left ventricular myocardial infarction, the entire layer of the ventricular wall myocardium necrose. In about 10% to 38% of cases, the necrotic myocardium is gradually replaced by fibrous scar tissue, forming a ventricular aneurysm. The thin layer of the ventricular wall in the lesion area bulges outward, and the heart loses its ability to move or exhibits abnormal movements during contraction. As early as 1881, the evolution of coronary artery obstruction, myocardial infarction, myocardial fibrosis and left ventricular aneurysm had been fully understood. Since the 1960s, the clinical diagnosis of left ventricular aneurysm has progressed rapidly. In 1955, Likoff and Bailey carried out closed resection of ventricular aneurysm. In 1958, Cooley successfully performed the first ventricular aneurysm resection under extracorporeal circulation.
