Congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction in children
Congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is one of the most common urinary tract malformations in children, which can lead to hydronephrosis. There are three types of UPJO: intrinsic obstruction, extrinsic obstruction, and secondary obstruction. Due to the obstruction of the junction, urine in the renal pelvis cannot flow smoothly and promptly into the ureter, resulting in continuous and progressive expansion of the renal collecting system, which further damages the emptying capacity of the renal pelvis.
