Posterior tibial nerve injury
The tibial nerve branches off from the sciatic nerve and descends vertically. It descends along the midline of the popliteal fossa to the lower edge of the popliteal muscle, enters the deep surface of the soleus muscle, and becomes the posterior tibial nerve. The tibial nerve has motor branches to the gastrocnemius, soleus, plantaris, popliteus, tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, and flexor digitorum longus. It descends between the Achilles tendon and the medial malleolus, passes through the flexor retinaculum, and is divided into the medial and lateral plantar nerves, which innervate the plantar muscles and the plantar skin sensation.
