Neonatal serum total calcium <2.0mmol/L (8mg/dl) or serum ionized calcium <0.9mmol/L (3.6mg/dl) is called hypocalcemia. Neonates are prone to hypocalcemia, which is one of the important causes of neonatal convulsions.
