Globoid cell leukodystrophy (GLD) is also known as Krabbe leukodystrophy, Krabbe disease, Krabbe acute infantile cerebral sclerosis, globoid leukodystrophy, congenital systemic muscular dysplasia, globoid cell leukoencephalopathy, globoid cell diffuse sclerosis, Krabbe syndrome, etc. It is an autosomal recessive inheritance and is a brain lipid deposition disease caused by the deficiency of β-galactosidase or its reduced activity.
