Maturity-onset diabetes in young people
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young is abbreviated as MODY (maturity onset diabetes of the young). In 1975, Fajans and Tattersall named this type of non-insulin-dependent diabetes with early onset and autosomal dominant inheritance as MODY based on a series of reports since 1950. In 1985, the WHO classified it as a subtype of non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Recently, with the progress of molecular genetics and in-depth research on the etiology and pathogenesis of diabetes, the ADA in 1997 and the WHO diabetes expert report in 1999 classified it as a special type of diabetes caused by genetic defects in pancreatic β cell function due to single gene mutations.
