Iridocorneal endothelial syndrome
Iridocorneal endothelial syndrome (ICE syndrome) is a group of diseases that usually occur in one eye and are more common in people aged 20 to 50 years old. It is more common in women than in men. It is characterized by corneal endothelial abnormalities, progressive iris stromal atrophy, extensive peripheral anterior iris synechiae, angle closure, and secondary glaucoma. The name of the disease was proposed by Eagle and Yanoff, and it represents a group of anterior segment diseases with the characteristics of primary corneal endothelial abnormalities. Corneal endothelial lesions are directly responsible for corneal edema, progressive iridocorneal synechiae closure, significant iris destruction, and secondary glaucoma to varying degrees. In the ICE syndrome series, the three clinical types of progressive iris atrophy, Chandlel syndrome, and Cogan-Reese syndrome are mainly distinguished based on iris changes.
