Wilson-Mikity syndrome in newborns
This syndrome mainly occurs in premature infants with a gestational age of less than 32 weeks and a birth weight of less than 1500g. It usually develops at the end of the first week after birth or later. Due to immature lungs, some alveoli collapse due to poor inflation, and some alveoli become cystic emphysema due to overventilation. It is characterized by progressive, intermittent or recurrent dyspnea accompanied by cyanosis.
