It has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect, and has antibacterial effects on most bacteria of the Enterobacteriaceae family, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus, but only has a mild effect on pneumococci, various groups of streptococci, and enterococci, and also has antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium leprae. It acts on the A subunit of bacterial DNA helicase, inhibiting DNA synthesis and replication, leading to bacterial death.
