Function and Efficacy

Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic. This product is an enteric-coated microcapsule, which avoids the release and inactivation of erythromycin base in gastric acid. The antibacterial spectrum of erythromycin is as follows: Common sensitive strains: Group A Streptococcus, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus sanguinis, Pneumococcus, Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Bordetella pertussis, Moraxella catarrhalis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium difficile, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia trachomatis, Legionella, Treponema pallidum, Leptospira, Campylobacter. Strains with variable sensitivity: Haemophilus influenzae, Bacteroides fragilis, Clostridium cholerae, Staphylococcus aureus. Resistant strains: Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas.

Appearance

Indication

It is mainly used for tonsillitis, pneumonia, scarlet fever, diphtheria and carriers, gonorrhea and other infections caused by G-sensitive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and other Streptococci; it can also be used for upper respiratory tract infections (such as ear, nose, throat infections, etc.) caused by influenza bacilli, skin and soft tissue infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, syphilis, intestinal amebiasis, etc. This product can be used as the first choice drug for Legionnaires' disease, mycoplasma pneumonia, etc.

Usage and Dosage

Oral administration: adults 1-2 g per day, divided into 3-4 doses.

Adverse Reactions

1 Gastrointestinal reactions include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gastric colic, decreased appetite, etc., and the incidence is related to the dose. 2 Allergic reactions are manifested as drug fever, rash, eosinophilia, etc., with an incidence of 0.5-1%. 3 Transient elevation of AST transaminase and occasional cholestatic hepatitis may occur.

Drug Interactions

1. Erythromycin can inhibit the metabolism of carbamazepine, leading to an increase in the latter's blood concentration and toxic reactions. 2. Erythromycin antagonizes the effects of chloramphenicol and lincomycin, and co-use is not recommended. 3. Long-term use of warfarin can lead to a prolonged prothrombin time when using erythromycin, thereby increasing the risk of bleeding, and elderly patients should pay special attention. When both must be used together, the dose of warfarin should be appropriately adjusted, and the prothrombin time should be closely observed. 4. In addition to dihydroxypropylphylline, the co-use of erythromycin and xanthines can reduce the hepatic clearance of aminophylline, leading to an increase in serum aminophylline concentration and (or) increased toxic reactions. This phenomenon is more likely to occur after 6 days of co-use, and the reduction in aminophylline elimination is proportional to the erythromycin serum peak. Therefore, the dose of xanthines should be adjusted during and after the co-use course. 5. Co-use with bromostatin will increase the latter's plasma concentration, even to toxic levels. It is recommended to conduct clinical and electrocardiographic monitoring, and adjust the dose of digoxin if necessary. 6. Co-administration with cyclosporine: Erythromycin can increase the levels of cyclosporine and creatinine in the blood. When used in combination, renal function should be monitored, plasma cyclosporine levels should be measured, and the dosage of cyclosporine should be adjusted during and after treatment. 7. There have been reports of signs of ergotism with possible extremity necrosis caused by the simultaneous use of erythromycin and drugs containing ergotamine or other ergot-derived vasoconstrictors.
