Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: The usual dosage for children is 30 mg/kg per day, divided into 4 oral doses. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: It is most appropriate to supplement iron during pregnancy in the middle and late stages of pregnancy, because iron intake decreases and the amount required increases. Some literature reports that miscarriage occurred in patients who used sorbitol iron in early pregnancy, so sorbitol iron injection should be prohibited before 3 to 4 months of pregnancy. Precautions for the elderly: Elderly patients take oral iron to treat iron deficiency anemia. If necessary, the dose can be appropriately increased because of reduced gastric juice secretion, lack of gastric acid, and reduced iron absorption from the intestinal mucosa.
