Fosfomycin has antibacterial effects on Gram-positive cocci such as Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. It also has strong antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Serratia, Shigella, Yersinia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Vibrio and Aeromonas. Fosfomycin can inhibit the early synthesis of bacterial cell walls. Its molecular structure is similar to phosphoenolpyruvate, so it can compete with bacteria for the same transferase, inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and leading to bacterial death.

It is mainly used for male and female reproductive and urinary tract infections, such as various urogenital and genital infections caused by mycoplasma, chlamydia, gonococcal, non-gonococcal, Trichomonas, bacteria, fungi, and Candida; urethritis, acute and chronic prostatitis, orchitis, balanitis, cystitis, herpes, condyloma, and pyelonephritis; it has certain therapeutic effects on gynecological diseases such as vaginitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis (erosion), endometritis, adnexitis, and postoperative urinary tract infection.
