Sodium Citrate Injection for Blood Transfusion
Function and Efficacy
Blood used for transfusion generally uses sodium citrate as an anticoagulant. Calcium is an essential substance in the coagulation process and can promote the formation of thrombin (coagulation factor III), thrombin and fibrin, as well as activate platelets to release coagulation factor reactions. The citrate ions in this product react with calcium ions in the blood to form a soluble complex, calcium citrate, which is difficult to dissociate. This complex is easily soluble in water but not easy to dissociate, which reduces the calcium ions in the blood and inhibits the coagulation process, thereby preventing blood coagulation. Sodium citrate is generally completely oxidized and metabolized in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and its oxidation rate is close to the normal transfusion rate. As an in vitro anticoagulant, this product will not produce adverse reactions in adults at a dose of 600ml when the transfusion rate is not too fast and the liver function is normal. When the transfusion rate is too fast or the amount of blood transfused is too large, the citrate cannot be oxidized in time.

Appearance
This product is a colorless clear liquid
Indication
Anticoagulant. Used for extracorporeal anticoagulation.
Usage and Dosage
To prevent blood clotting during blood transfusion, add 10 ml of 2.5% sodium citrate solution to every 100 ml of whole blood to prevent the blood from clotting.
Adverse Reactions
At normal transfusion speed, this product will not cause adverse reactions. When the transfusion speed is too fast or the transfusion volume is too large (more than 1000ml), citrate cannot be oxidized in time, which may cause hypocalcemia, convulsions and myocardial contraction inhibition.
Precautions
When liver and kidney function is impaired or the enzyme system of the newborn is underdeveloped and cannot fully metabolize sodium citrate, hypocalcemia may occur even with slow blood transfusion, so special attention should be paid.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Newborns have underdeveloped enzyme systems and cannot fully metabolize sodium citrate. Even with slow blood transfusions, hypocalcemia may occur, so special attention should be paid.
