Function and Efficacy
This product belongs to the macrolide antibiotics. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome of sensitive bacteria. It has antibacterial activity against Staphylococci (except methicillin-resistant strains), all groups of streptococci and Gram-positive bacilli. Streptococcus pyogenes, group A hemolytic streptococci, Staphylococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, meningococci, gonorrhea, Bordetella pertussis, etc. are also sensitive to this product. This product also has antibacterial effects on various anaerobic bacteria except Bacteroides fragilis and Fusobacterium. It also has inhibitory effects on Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia, Legionella, Treponema pallidum, Leptospira, and Campylobacter fetus. Appearance
This product is a colorless and transparent capsule, and the content is white or off-white enteric-coated erythromycin base microcapsules.
Indication
Mild or moderate respiratory tract infections caused by β-hemolytic streptococci and pneumococci. Hemophilic influenza. Mild or moderate lower respiratory tract infections caused by β-hemolytic streptococci and pneumococci. Respiratory tract infections caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Whooping cough caused by Bordetella pertussis: Erythromycin can effectively eliminate the whooping cough bacteria in the throat of patients. Clinical studies have shown that erythromycin can prevent susceptible people from being infected with whooping cough. Diphtheria: Diphtheria is caused by the toxin produced by Bordetella diphtheriae. Erythromycin can prevent susceptible people from becoming diphtheria carriers or eradicate the bacteria in carriers. Erythrasma caused by Corynebacterium microti. Intestinal amoeba caused by Entamoeba histolytica. Mononucleosis caused by Listeria. Mild and moderate infections of the skin and soft tissues caused by Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.
Usage and Dosage
Streptococcal infection: Oral erythromycin requires at least a 10-day course of treatment. For patients with rheumatic heart disease, continuous medication is required to prevent recurrence of streptococcal infection, the dose is 250 mg twice a day. Patients with penicillin allergy for valvular heart disease take erythromycin to prevent endocarditis during dental surgery or upper respiratory tract surgery. Adults take 1g orally 1 hour before surgery (children 20mg/kg), and then take 500mg (children 10mg/kg) 6 hours after surgery. Intestinal ameba: Adults 250mg, once every 6 hours for 10 to 14 days. Adverse Reactions
Common side effects include vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, anorexia and other gastrointestinal reactions, which are dose-related. Allergic reactions include: urticaria, mild rash. There are reports of temporary hearing loss, which occurs in patients with poor renal function and large dosages. There are reports that oral erythromycin can cause liver damage and jaundice.
Precautions
Patients who are allergic to this product or other macrolide drugs are contraindicated.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: 30-50 mg per kg of body weight per day for children, divided into 2 doses. Double the dose for severe infection. Or follow the doctor's advice. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Use with caution for pregnant and lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: No such experiment has been conducted and no reliable references are available.
Drug Interactions
1. Erythromycin can inhibit the metabolism of carbamazepine, leading to an increase in the latter's blood concentration and toxic reactions. 2. Erythromycin has an antagonistic effect on chloramphenicol and lincomycin, so it is not recommended to use them together. 3. Patients who take warfarin for a long time may experience a prolonged prothrombin time when using erythromycin, thereby increasing the risk of bleeding. Elderly patients should pay special attention. When the two must be used together, the dose of warfarin should be appropriately adjusted and the prothrombin time should be closely monitored. 4. Antibacterial agents can interfere with the bactericidal efficacy of penicillin. Therefore, when a rapid bactericidal effect is required, such as in the treatment of meningitis, the two should not be used together. 5. With the exception of dihydroxypropylphylline, the use of erythromycin and xanthines can cause ammonia.
