Appearance
This product is white tablets or sugar-coated tablets. Sugar-coated tablets appear white after removing the sugar coating.
Indication
It is used to treat various types of epilepsy. It can also be used to treat manic episodes of bipolar disorder.
Usage and Dosage
For oral anti-epileptic, start with a low dose, 200 mg once, 2 to 3 times a day, gradually increase to 300 to 400 mg once, 2 to 3 times a day. For anti-mania, start with a low dose, 200 mg once, 2 to 3 times a day, gradually increase to 300 to 400 mg once, 2 to 3 times a day. The maximum dose does not exceed 1.6g per day. Children over 6 years old should take 20 to 30 mg/kg per day according to their body weight, divided into 3 to 4 doses.
Adverse Reactions
Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, etc. A few may experience lethargy, tremor, ataxia, hair loss, abnormal excitement and irritability, etc. Occasionally, allergic rash, thrombocytopenia or platelet aggregation inhibition causing abnormal bleeding, leukopenia or toxic liver damage may occur.
Precautions
It is contraindicated for patients with leukopenia and severe liver disease. It is contraindicated for children under 6 years old.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Use with caution in children under 6 years old. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Pregnant women are prohibited from using this product. This product can be secreted into breast milk. Lactating women should stop breastfeeding while using this product. Precautions for the elderly: Reduce the dosage as appropriate depending on the condition.
Drug Interactions
(1) This product can inhibit the metabolism of phenytoin sodium, phenobarbital, primidone, and ethosuximide, increasing the blood concentration of the drugs. (2) This product can cause absence epileptic status when used in combination with clonazepam, so it should not be used in combination. (3) Antacids can reduce the blood concentration of this product. (4) Aspirin can increase the efficacy and toxicity of this product. (5) When used in combination with anticoagulants such as warfarin or heparin, as well as thrombolytic drugs, the risk of bleeding increases. (6) When used in combination with carbamazepine, the induction of liver enzymes can accelerate drug metabolism, which can reduce the blood concentration of the two drugs and shorten their half-life. (7) When used in combination with haloperidol and thioxanthene, phenothiazine antipsychotics, tricyclic antidepressants, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors, it can increase the depression of the central nervous system, lower the convulsion threshold and the anticonvulsant effect of valproic acid.
