Magnesium sulfate

Function and Efficacy

① Intramuscular or intravenous injection inhibits and relieves spasms in the central nervous system. Magnesium ions inhibit the release of acetylcholine by motor nerve endings, block nerve and muscle conduction, and relax skeletal muscles, so they can effectively prevent and control convulsions (eclampsia); ② Magnesium ions directly act on uterine muscle cells, antagonize the effect of calcium ions on uterine muscle contraction, and inhibit uterine contraction; ③ 50% solution applied externally can relieve inflammation and pain through hot compress; ④ It is difficult to absorb orally, which increases the osmotic pressure in the intestinal cavity, and a large amount of water causes the intestine to expand, which stimulates the intestinal wall receptors and causes diarrhea; ⑤ The oral concentration (33%) has a choleretic effect. It is suitable for severe pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, threatened premature labor, cervical edema during labor, constipation, etc.
