Vitamin C
Ingredients
Indication
It can cure colds, beautify the skin, help the body function, and treat diseases. It is an indispensable nutrient for maintaining life.
Adverse Reactions
Vitamin C is very toxic, but taking too much can still cause some adverse reactions. 1. It has been reported that if an adult consumes more than 2 grams of vitamin C, it can cause osmotic diarrhea. At this time, the vitamin accelerates small intestinal peristalsis, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea. When the intake is less than 1 gram, it generally does not cause hyperuricemia. When it exceeds 1 gram, uric acid excretion increases significantly. Studies have found that excessive use of vitamin C will mostly be metabolized and decomposed by the liver, and the final product is oxalic acid, which is excreted from the bladder and urethra as oxalate. Taking 4 grams of vitamin C per day, within 24 hours, the oxalate content in the urethra will surge from 58mg to 620m (more than 10 times). If you continue to take excessive amounts for a long time, the oxalate will increase, and urinary stones are very likely to form.
Precautions
1. It is forbidden to use it at the same time with alkaline drugs. Vitamin C can enhance immunity and prevent colds. When the weather turns cooler, many people will consciously eat some vitamin C. However, patients with gastric ulcers should pay attention that vitamin C must not be taken with ulcer drugs, but should be taken two hours apart. This is because patients with gastric ulcers have more gastric acid. Most of the drugs for treating ulcers such as Wei Shuping and Wei Xi are used to neutralize gastric acid, while vitamin C, which tastes sour and sweet, is acidic. If the two are taken at the same time, an acid-base neutralization reaction will naturally occur, making both drugs lose their efficacy. 2. It cannot be used at the same time with sulfonamide drugs, because vitamin C can cause sulfonamide drugs to form stones in the kidneys. 3. Oral contraceptives will accelerate the metabolism of vitamin C, so those who often use contraceptives should increase the dose of vitamin C supplements.
