As a common intermediate in organic synthesis, 5-fluoro-2-pyridine carboxylic acid is mainly used for structural modification and derivatization of pyridine-containing drug molecules and bioactive molecules. Among them, the carboxyl group on the pyridine ring can be converted into ester group, but the acid promoted esterification reaction condition is generally not used. More often, dichlorosulfoxide is used to change the carboxyl group into acyl chloride and then alcohol is added to change it into ester group. In addition, the carboxylic groups on the compound can also be converted into trifluoromethyl groups. Finally, nitrogen atoms on the pyridine ring can also be oxidized to nitrogen oxides.

5-fluoro-2-pyridinecarboxylic acid at room temperature and pressure is a slight yellowish-red yellow solid powder, and is generally soluble in chloroform. In the literature, chloroform is commonly used as a solvent to recrystallize and purify it, and it can be used as a common intermediate in organic synthesis.
