Dissolution: Soluble in ethanol, acetone and Ethyl acetate, slightly soluble in water, ether and chloroform, insoluble in benzene and Petroleum ether. Application: An amide alcohol antibiotic with optical activity. Mainly used for typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever and other Salmonella, Bacteroides fragilis infection. For topical treatment of trachoma or pyogenic infections. Its palmitate is an odorless oral agent. Sodium succinate is a water-soluble injection with little side effects. Preparation or source: Except extracted from Streptomyces venezuela fermentation broth, it can be synthesized from benzyl alcohol.
