Description

Cobalt hydroxide is a fine inorganic compound, generally a rose red monoclinic or tetragonal crystal, with a relative density of 3.597 (15°C). It decomposes when heated. It is soluble in acid and ammonium salt solutions, insoluble in water and ethanol. It reacts with some organic acids to form cobalt-containing soaps. It is easy to decompose when heated. It loses water to CoO when heated at 160°C in a vacuum. It is relatively active and can also react to form salts in weak acid aqueous solutions. In the presence of oxygen, it reacts rapidly to a high-valent state.
