Uses
Tirzepatide shares a similar sequence to semaglutide, with the lys side chain of the sequence bearing a PEG modification, which is a functional group of the peptide, as well as the ability to increase the water solubility of the sequence.The primary physiological function of Tirzepatide is that of a dual agonist of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. It is being developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and is already in the clinical phase.A large study enrolled 2539 adults with at least one complication of obesity (excluding diabetes) and a body mass index (BMI) ≥30kg/m2 or ≥27kg/m2. All subjects were randomly divided into 5mg, 10mg, 15mg and placebo groups in equal proportions. The results showed that at 72 weeks, the weight of each group decreased by 16.1kg, 22.2kg, 23.6kg, and 2.4kg, respectively [2]. The weight loss effect of tepoxetine is comparable to that of bariatric surgery.
