      Product Detail

Borax is the sodium salt of boric acid, a general term for sodium tetraborate, which is a mineral containing boron. According to the amount of crystal water, it is divided into three types: decahydrate borax, pentahydrate borax, and anhydrous borax. (1) The chemical name of borax decahydrate is sodium tetraborate decahydrate, with a molecular formula of Na2B4O7 · 10H2O and a molecular weight of 381.37. It is a colorless semi transparent crystal or white crystalline powder, odorless, salty, with a density of 1.73g/cm3 and a melting point of 75 ℃. It can slowly lose water and weather in dry air. Heating to 300-400 ℃ results in the loss of all crystal water and the transformation into anhydrous sodium tetraborate Na2B4O7. Easy to dissolve in water and glycerol, insoluble in alcohol. Melting into a glassy substance at 878 ℃. (2) The chemical name of borax pentahydrate is sodium tetraborate pentahydrate, with a molecular formula of Na2B4O7 · 5H2O and a molecular weight of 291.29. It is a white crystalline powder with a density of 1.815g/cm3. When heated to 122 ℃, it loses its crystalline water and transforms into anhydrous sodium tetraborate. The chemical name of anhydrous borax is sodium tetraborate, with a molecular formula of Na2B4O7 and a molecular weight of 201.22. It is a white crystal or glass body, and comes in two forms: α - rhombohedral crystal with a melting point of 742.5 ℃ and a density of 2.28g/cm3, and β - rhombohedral crystal with a melting point of 664 ℃ and a density of 2.75g/cm3. It has strong hygroscopicity, is soluble in water, and slowly dissolves in methanol, forming a solution with a concentration of 13-16%. Borax not only has the characteristics of heat resistance, water resistance, and acid resistance, but also has extremely strong solubility. After heating, borax turns white and expands, becoming transparent glass balls. Metal oxides can dissolve in it, restoring the original color of the metal. This is the famous borax ball reaction. Borax can be used in capacitor manufacturing, various glass products, and as a glaze in the ceramic industry. Used as an antifreeze and anticoagulant in the mining and metallurgical industries, and as an electrolyte additive and welding agent in the non-ferrous metal industry. In addition, it is used as a preservative, herbicide, soil fungicide, and in the manufacture of borides.
