      Product Detail

    Description

Silica / Silicon Dioxide (Amorphous SiO₂) CAS 7631-86-9 includes precipitated silica and silica gel powder grades, both produced through wet-process routes. These materials are supplied as white, free-flowing amorphous powders with high purity and tunable physical properties.

    • Precipitated Silica → manufactured by controlled precipitation from silicate solutions, producing powders with defined surface area, porosity, and particle size distribution.

    • Silica Gel → formed via gelation and drying of silicate solutions, yielding highly porous powders with large surface area and strong adsorption capacity.

Both forms are widely applied in industries that require reinforcement, free-flow control, adsorption, thickening, and carrier properties.

    Specifications

Specifications vary by grade. Typical parameters include:

    • SiO₂ Content: ≥ 99%

    • Surface Area (BET): 100–400 m²/g

    • Particle Size: 2–20 μm

    • Bulk Density: 100–300 g/L depending on grade

    • pH (in suspension): 5-8

    • Appearance: White, odorless, free-flowing amorphous powder

    Key Features

    • High-purity amorphous silica, non-crystalline and safe in use

    • Precipitated Silica → versatile powder for reinforcement, carriers, and anti-caking

    • Silica Gel → high porosity, excellent adsorption and surface activity

    • Chemically stable, inert, and non-toxic

    • Available in multiple grades tailored to industrial applications

    Applications

Amorphous silica is one of the most versatile industrial additives, used across diverse markets:

    • Rubber & Tire Industry → Precipitated silica reinforces tire treads, shoe soles, and silicone rubber, improving abrasion resistance, tear strength, rolling resistance, and fuel efficiency.

    • Paints, Coatings & Inks → Fumed silica controls rheology, sag, and settling; precipitated silica improves matting, opacity, and durability. Widely applied in architectural, industrial, and wood coatings.

    • Adhesives & Sealants → Fumed silica acts as a thixotropic agent for viscosity control; precipitated silica enhances mechanical strength. Used in silicone sealants, epoxy adhesives, and construction sealants.

    • Plastics & Polymers → Improves reinforcement, dimensional stability, and surface properties in engineering plastics and thermosets.

    • Food & Feed → Precipitated silica functions as an anti-caking agent and free-flow aid in powdered foods, spices, milk powder, and feed premixes. Also used as a carrier for vitamins, flavors, and active ingredients.

    • Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics → Excipient and glidant in tablets, flow aid in powders, oil absorption in cosmetics, and stabilizer in creams and emulsions.

    • Catalysts & Chemicals → Silica gel and precipitated silica act as high-surface-area catalyst supports and filtration aids in petrochemicals, fine chemicals, and environmental applications.

    • Electronics & Electrical → High-purity fumed silica is used in encapsulants, potting compounds, and insulating materials for semiconductors and cables.

    • Desiccants & Drying → Silica gel powders applied in industrial drying, separation, and moisture control systems.

    • Agriculture → Carrier for pesticides, fertilizers, and agrochemical formulations; flow aid in powders.

    Packaging & Storage

    • Powder grades (all types): 10kg/paper-plastic valve bag, kraft paper composite bag, or as required

    • Store in a cool, dry, ventilated area, tightly sealed to prevent moisture uptake

    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
Diatomaceous earth is a transparent to gray, odorless amorphous powder. Amorphous silica, the noncrystalline form of SiO2, is a transparent to gray, odorless, amorphous powder white crystals or powder
Silicon dioxide occurs almost everywhere on earth. It is one of the most important and abundant oxides on earth, constituting about 60% weight of the earth’s crust as silica itself or in combination with other metal oxides in silicates. It commonly is found as sand in the vast ocean and river shores, their beds, deserts, rocks, and minerals.Silicon dioxide exists in several structural forms: polymorphic crystalline silica, synthetic quartz crystals, amorphous silica, and vitreous silica. This classification is not complete as there are other forms of silica synthesized for specialized applications.
Silica is an inert, naturally occurring mineral used as a carrier in some pesticide products and is sometimes used as an insecticide to control crawling insects, acting via its abrasive and desiccant properties. It is moderately soluble in water and stable in the environment. It is generally considered non-toxic to biodiversity and humans. However, there are some concerns that exposure to crystalline silica particles that are small enough to reach the lungs can cause lung cancer.

    Physical Properties:

Colorless amorphous (i.e., fused silica) or crystalline (i.e., quartz) material having a low thermal expansion coefficient and excellent optical transmittance in far UV. Silica is insoluble in strong mineral acids and alkalis except HF, concentrated H3PO4, NH4HF2, concentrated alkali metal hydroxides. Owing to its good corrosion resistance to liquid metals such as Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, Ga, In, Tl, Rb, Bi, and Cd, it is used as crucible container for melting these metals, while silica is readily attacked in an inert atmosphere by molten metals such as Li, Na, K Mg, and Al. Quartz crystals are piezoelectric and pyroelectric. Maximum service temperature 1090°C.
