    Uses

    Hydroxypropyl - β - cyclodextrin has lower toxicity than its parent cyclodextrin, is non-toxic when taken orally, and has low hemolysis. It has been proven through extensive animal and clinical experiments to be suitable for oral and injection use, and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use in food and pharmaceuticals. The semi lethal dose of general pharmaceutical grade hydroxypropyl - β - cyclodextrin for white mice is greater than 2000mg/kg. Daily oral administration of 4400mg/kg and repeated 90 day toxicity experiments have shown no effect on the health of white mice. The stimulation experiment on the skin and eyes of experimental rabbits showed no stimulation on the skin and eyes of the test subjects. Sensitivity experiments showed that it had no sensitization to the skin of experimental pigs. Hydroxypropyl - β - cyclodextrin has shown good tolerance in animal experiments such as rats, mice, and dogs, especially when taken orally, showing only limited toxicity. In short-term experiments, the subjects only experienced very slight physiological changes, while in relatively long-term (three months) experiments, the subjects showed minor hematological changes but no histopathological changes. During intravenous administration, histopathological changes were observed in the lungs, liver, and kidneys, but these changes were reversible and quickly recovered after discontinuation without any adverse effects on the body. Carcinogenicity studies have shown an increased likelihood of tumors developing in the pancreas and intestines of experimental rats, but this is considered a rat specific phenomenon. Experiments on rats and rabbits have shown that hydroxypropyl - β - cyclodextrin has no effect on embryos. In clinical trials, the human body has a good tolerance to hydroxypropyl - β - cyclodextrin, and the main discomfort is diarrhea. Data shows that hydroxypropyl - β - cyclodextrin has no effect on human kidney function.
