    Xylitol

    Product Definition

    Xylitol is a food additive made from corn cobs, sugarcane bagasse, and wood through hydrolysis and purification to produce xylose, followed by hydrogenation and other processes. Alternatively, it can be made directly from xylose through hydrogenation and other processes.

    Product Functional Category and Applications

    1. Xylitol is difficult for bacteria in the mouth to break down into acidic substances, so it is less likely to cause tooth decay. Therefore, it is often used in chewing gum, toothpaste, mouthwash, candy, etc.

    2. Xylitol can enter cells directly without insulin during metabolism and will not cause a spike in blood sugar. It can be used as a sucrose substitute for diabetics, but it still produces calories, so it should not be consumed in excess.
