Octocrylene (also known as UV-3039) is a widely used oil-soluble ultraviolet (UV) filter commonly incorporated into sunscreen and cosmetic formulations. It belongs to the cinnamate class of compounds and is valued for its ability to absorb primarily UVB rays, along with a portion of short-wave UVA radiation.

One of the key advantages of Octocrylene is its excellent photostability. It not only maintains its own effectiveness under sunlight but also helps stabilize other UV filters—such as avobenzone—by reducing their degradation when exposed to UV radiation.
