Geniposide

Geniposide is a natural iridoid glycoside extracted primarily from the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides (Zhi Zi) that functions as a highly versatile therapeutic agent with potent anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective (liver-protecting), and neuroprotective properties. It is a prodrug that is metabolized by intestinal microbiota into its active form, genipin. Genipin then interacts with cellular pathways—most notably activating uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) and the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway—to regulate metabolism, reduce oxidative stress, and suppress inflammation throughout the body.

• Enhances Insulin Secretion: Geniposide acts as an agonist for the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R). This triggers pancreatic beta cells to secrete insulin in a glucose-dependent manner, helping to control blood sugar spikes.
