1. Physical Properties
(1) Appearance: At room temperature, it is a white crystalline powder or flaky solid; the pure form is a colorless, transparent crystal, while the industrial grade is typically white, opaque, and found in lump or granular forms.
(2) Basic Parameters: Density 2.13 g/cm³, melting point 318.4 °C, boiling point 1390 °C.
(3) Solubility: Highly soluble in water, releasing a large amount of heat upon dissolution; also soluble in ethanol and glycerol; insoluble in acetone and diethyl ether.
(4) Other Properties: Extremely hygroscopic; readily deliquesces in air; its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline; feels noticeably slippery to the touch.
2. Chemical Properties
(1) Strongly alkaline: Its aqueous solution turns phenolphthalein red and litmus blue; it reacts vigorously with various acids to neutralize them, releasing a large amount of heat in the process.
(2) Reaction Properties: It reacts with acidic gases such as carbon dioxide to form sodium carbonate; it reacts with amphoteric metals such as aluminum and zinc to release hydrogen gas; and it undergoes a disproportionation reaction with halogens such as chlorine.
(3) Corrosive Properties: It is highly corrosive to skin, fibers, glass, and ceramics. It reacts with silicon dioxide in glass to form sodium silicate; therefore, it should not be stored long-term in containers with glass stoppers.
(4) Saponification Reaction: It reacts with fats and oils to form the corresponding sodium salts of organic acids and alcohols; this is the core principle behind its ability to remove grease.
3. Main Applications
(1) Industrial Chemistry: As a basic chemical raw material, it is used to produce various sodium salts such as borax, oxalic acid, and phenol; it is a key additive in paper pulping (lignin removal) and in textile printing and dyeing for desizing and mercerization.
(2) Metallurgy and Petroleum: Used to purify alumina from bauxite; it is also used in the refining of petroleum products and the formulation of oilfield drilling mud.
(3) Environmental Water Treatment: Neutralizes acidic wastewater and adjusts the pH of water bodies; it can also precipitate and remove heavy metal ions from water and is used in flue gas desulfurization processes.
(4) Food Processing: Compliant food-grade sodium hydroxide can be used for peeling fruits and vegetables and cleaning food processing containers, in appropriate amounts according to production needs.
(5) Household and Laboratory Use: It is a key raw material in the production of soap and synthetic detergents. In laboratories, it serves as a common reagent for preparing standard alkaline solutions and for the absorption of acidic gases.

The product strictly complies with the GB/T 2961-2014 national standard, accompanied by a complete set of MSDS, commodity inspection reports, and hazardous packaging certificates, and meets EU REACH import and export requirements. Standard packaging includes 200 kg galvanized closed-top steel drums and 1,000 L IBC containers. For large volumes, bulk transport via tank containers is available. Storing and transporting the product in a sealed, light-protected environment effectively delays oxidation and discoloration. Supply is stable and ample, supporting full-container and consolidated shipments for international trade, and meeting global chemical procurement and custom fine chemical production needs.
