Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (TKPRPGP), developed in the early 1990s at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Zakusov Research Institute of Pharmacology. It is an analogue of the endogenous immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension that enhances stability and confers anxiolytic and nootropic properties. Selank has been studied for its effects on anxiety, cognition, memory, and immune function, and is used in research in Russia and some other countries for the research application of generalized anxiety disorder and cognitive impairments.
