5-Chloro-2-methylbenzenediazonium Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

First prepare 5-chloro-o-toluidine (there are three methods), and then form a salt with hydrochloric acid to obtain the product. Method 1: Using p-chlorotoluene as raw material, 5-chloro-o-toluidine is obtained through nitration, reduction and vacuum distillation. Method 2: Using o-nitrotoluene as raw material, 5-chloro o-toluidine is obtained through chlorination, reduction and vacuum distillation. Method 3: Using p-toluidine as raw material, 5-chloro-o-toluidine is obtained by nitrification, diazotization, chlorination, reduction, and vacuum distillation. This method is mostly used in domestic production. . Add 62kg of 96.6% sulfuric acid to the nitrification pot, stir and cool to 10°C, add 11kg of p-toluidine to the nitrification pot in about 1.5h, and stir until completely dissolved (no suspended particles). Continue to cool down to 0°C, slowly add 85.6kg of mixed acid dropwise within 6-7h, continue stirring for 1-2h after adding, and the end point is when the nitric acid content in the feed liquid drops to 0.1%-0.2%. About 85.6kg of nitration product was obtained. Add 10kg of water and 5.9kg of sodium chloride to the diazotization reaction tank, add the above-mentioned nitrated materials under stirring, and add water to cool the materials below 20°C, and then add ice cubes to cool the materials to 0°C. Add 11.62kg of sodium nitrite solution (relative density 1.10) within 80min, stir for 2h, and measure the end point with potassium iodide test paper. If the test paper is blue, add a small amount of nitrified material. 134kg of diazonium material was obtained. Add 25kg of water, 4kg of sodium chloride and 4kg of copper sulfate to the chlorination reaction tank, heat it to 95℃ with direct steam, add the diazonium solution evenly within 2-3h, and continue to stir for 30min (about 70℃) after the addition. Let stand for 20 minutes, pour out the upper layer of wastewater (recyclable), and the lower layer is the chlorinated material. Add 30kg of water and the above-mentioned chlorinated materials to the reduction kettle, raise the temperature to 90°C, add 32kg of 30% sodium sulfide solution at 90-100°C, add it in about 1h, continue to boil and reflux at 105-108°C for 5h under constant stirring, Until there is no yellow oily substance in the reflux liquid (take a small amount of the reaction liquid and put it into 3% hydrochloric acid, there should be no oily substance suspended). Leave the material to stand for 6 hours, and then perform vacuum distillation. Steam water at 50-100°C/9.73kPa, and steam the product at 140-150°C/97.3kPa. Stop the distillation at 170°C/97.3kPa. The total yield is about 77%-78%. Add 600kg of 5-chloro-o-toluidine and 2500L of 8% hydrochloric acid to the salt-forming pot, stir and heat to 70°C to dissolve all the amine (about 2h). Then add 470 kg of 40% hydrochloric acid, cool to 15-20°C, the product is separated out, vacuum filtered, dehydrated, and dried at 70-75°C to obtain the finished product.

Uses

The red base KB is mainly used for the dyeing of cotton and the printing of cotton cloth, but also for the dyeing of silk and nylon and the printing of its fabrics. It is an important red base. Coupling with Naphthol AS and AS-D gives a pink color, coupling with Naphthol AS-OL gives a brilliant red, and coupling with Naphthol AS-SW and AS-TR results in an alkali-resistant red. Also used to make fast pigments.
