Ethyl benzoate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Add 24.4g (0.2mol) benzoic acid, 50mL benzene, 18.4g (0.4mol) ethanol and 0.8g sulfuric acid to a 250mL three-necked flask with a water separator, and slowly heat to reflux until no water comes out of the water separator. The reactants were firstly distilled under normal pressure to recover benzene and remaining ethanol, and then distilled under reduced pressure to collect 101-103°C (2.66kPa) fractions, that is, about 28g of product was obtained. C6H5COOH+CH3CH2OH[H2SO4]→C6H5COOCH2CH3+H2O

Uses

It is often used in heavier floral fragrances, especially in the ylang-ylang type, and other fragrances such as carnation and tuberose. It is also suitable for the preparation of non-floral essences such as new mowing grass and fragrant wei. It can be used together with Cistus citrus products in leather fragrance. It is also used as a edible flavor, and it can be used in the flavors of fresh fruits, berries and nuts, such as banana, cherry, plum, grape and other flavors, as well as tobacco and wine flavors. The product has the aroma of wintergreen oil and cananga oil, and the fragrance is smooth and sweet. Used to prepare artificial ylang-ylang oil and sesame oil. It can be used in trace amounts in edible flavors, tobacco and edible berry flavors, and can also be used as a solvent for cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, and resins. It is used to prepare Yilan flavors and soap flavors, and also used as a solvent for cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, and resins.
