IDENTIFICATION AND USE: This chemical is a colorless, transparent crystals or white powder or granules. It is odorless; slightly soluble in water; insoluble in alcohol and ammonia. This chemical is used as a cleaning compound; oil well drilling; water treatment, cheese emulsification; as a general sequestering agent, to remove rust stains; as am ingredient of one fluid ink eradicators, in electrodeposition of metals. It is used in textile dyeing; scouring of wool; buffer; food additive; detergent builder; water softener and dispersant. HUMAN EXPOSURE AND TOXICITY: Alkaline and irritating. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are probable after ingestion. Medical reports of acute exposures show mild to moderate dermal and ocular responses. ANIMAL STUDIES: Tetrasodium pyrophosphate when added to the diets of rats in high concentrations it caused kidney damage. This chemical caused teratogenic effects in chicken embryos. Acute studies show that direct contact causes severe irritation and corneal injury in the rabbit eye and that it may be irritating to skin. This chemical can be considered moderately toxic on ingestion, inducing metabolic acidosis, and hypocalcemia.

Tetrasodium pyrophosphate Use and Manufacturing
In the two-step dry polymerization method, the soda ash is added to the neutralizer, heated under stirring to dissolve, and phosphoric acid is added for neutralization to generate disodium hydrogen phosphate. Control the end point of the reaction Ph 8.2~8.6, and the concentration of the solution after the reaction must not be lower than 40°Bé (relative density 1.383). Decolorize and filter. Concentrate the disodium hydrogen phosphate solution to 48°Bé (relative density 1.498). Send to the scraper to make anhydrous disodium hydrogen phosphate flakes. The disodium hydrogen phosphate flakes are sent to a box-type polymerization furnace for heating and polymerization, and the temperature of the material is controlled between 160-240°C. The fully polymerized sodium pyrophosphate is cooled and crushed, and generally passed through a 60-mesh sieve to obtain an anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate product. In the two-step process for producing anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate, the drying equipment of disodium hydrogen phosphate can be changed to a spray drying tower, and the polymerization equipment can be changed to a rotary polymerization furnace, which is more suitable for large-scale continuous production. The H3PO4+Na2CO3→N2HPO4+H2O+CO2↑2Na2HPO4[△]→Na4P2O7+H2O one-step drying polymerization method uses high-temperature gas to pass from the lower part of the boiling polymerization furnace, and enters the fixed material layer of the furnace cavity through the screen plate, and the material layer is dried After preliminary calcination, the polymerized disodium hydrogen phosphate is composed of solid particles. The materials are further heated and polymerized to produce sodium pyrophosphate products, which are continuously discharged from the upper discharge port of the sieve plate. The heating gas continues to move upward and passes through the boiling layer of the furnace cavity. The preliminarily dried disodium hydrogen phosphate floats up and down here with the undried disodium hydrogen phosphate, and several processes such as mixing, drying, and polymerization take place to produce anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate. The tail gas entrains part of the small solid materials and is discharged from the top of the furnace. The tail gas is processed by the cyclone separator to collect the lower part of the solid materials and return to the boiling layer.
