China丨Luba 13,000T/A L-glufosinate production line been put into operation

The production line with an annual output of 13,000 tons of L-glufosinate has been built and put into operation in Luba. The company’s products have been unanimously praised by customers. The core technology of this line is jointly completed by Zheng’s team from Zhejiang University of Technology, Luba and its subsidiaries, and the process is the most advanced in the production of L-glufosinate. From October 29 to 30, experts carried out on-site inspection and technical appraisal of the line. They gave a high evaluation and believed that the overall technology reached the international leading level.


Glufosinate-ammonium is the largest chiral herbicide in the world. The development of high optical pure L-glufosinate is of great significance for reducing the usage, increasing the efficiency and protecting the ecological environment. The bioanalysis has the advantages of strict stereoselectivity and mild reaction conditions, which is the most promising technology for the production of L-glufosinate. Under the guidance of Shen, the father of biopesticide in China, the team of Zhejiang University of Technology started the R&D of biosynthesis of L-glufosinate in 2000. They have become the unit that have obtained the most invention patents and published the most academic papers related to the R&D of L-glufosinate.


In 2016, Zhejiang University of Technology, in cooperation with Luba and its subsidiaries, successfully developed the three generations technologies to product L-glufosinate and expanded this project. According to the strategic development of Luba, it built 13,000 tons of high optics pure L-glyphosate production line and smoothly put into operation, which are based on the third generations’technology. This line adopts the chemical-biological combination technology, replacing D,L-glyphosate with conventional compounds to produce L-glufosinate. It abandons the original technology to short the reaction steps and avoid the use of highly toxic compounds. At the same time, in the process, the self-contained engineering cells and the chiral synthesis technology of L-glufosinate were developed. Luba obtained the first TC registration of L-glufosinate made from bio pathway in China. It led or participated in the formulation of China's first group product standards and national standards for L-glufosinate TC, TK and SC(T/CCPIA 187-2022、T/CCPIA 186-2022、T/CCPIA 189-2022) .


From October 29 to 30, CCPIA invited authoritative experts in the related field to carry out an investigation and technical appraisal on the production line of L-glufosinate in Luba. The appraisal committee believed that the complete set of 13,000 T/A technology is the most creative production technology of L-glufosinate at present with leading and exemplary. It is currently at the leading international level.
