There was an outbreak of SARS-COV-2 virus infection in Italy

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), on November 24, 2022, the Italian Ministry of Veterinary Public Health reported to WOAH that an outbreak of SARS-COV-2 virus infection occurred in Italy.


The outbreak occurred in Galeata, province of Forlì Cesena, Emilia-Romagna, and was confirmed on 15 November 2022. The source of the outbreak is pollutants (people, vehicles, feed, etc.). Clinical and laboratory tests found that 1523 ferrets were suspected to be infected, of which 4 became ill and died.


The outbreak is not over yet, and the Italian Ministry of Veterinary Public Health will submit a follow-up report on a weekly basis.
