The growth rate of cosmetics retail sales in May exceeded double digits

ECHEMI 2020-06-16

Today, the National Bureau of Statistics released data showing that in May, my country's total retail sales of consumer goods was 3137.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%. Among them, the total retail sales of cosmetics was 27 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.9%.

This growth rate of cosmetics in May is still 3.8 percentage points lower than the 16.7% level in May of the previous year, but it is 1 percentage point higher than the growth rate of 11.9% in December last year before the epidemic.

This means that in May retail sales of cosmetics officially returned to pre-epidemic levels.

Another phenomenon that deserves attention is that the growth rate of total retail sales of cosmetics in May has returned to the top three of all categories monitored by the Bureau of Statistics, next only to daily necessities and beverages.
