PolyOne will expand sustainable product development in Europe
On June 17, PolyOne announced that it will increase the production of post-industrial recycled nylon grades Nymax™PIR and bio-based thermoplastic elastomer reSound™OM in Europe. The enhanced sustainable product portfolio will support circular economy goals and provide EU customers with more choices of environmentally friendly materials.
According to the European Bioplastics Association, Europe now accounts for 25% of global bioplastics production, and by 2024, this number will increase to 30%.
Part of the reason for this growth is the public commitment of brands from all walks of life to increase their use of recycled plastics.
Nymax™ PIR post-industrial recycled nylon is formulated from 20% to 100% post-industrial nylon materials (such as recycled carpet) to provide performance comparable to major nylon grades, including high strength, durability, impact resistance and weather resistance . Therefore, this material is an excellent substitute for high-quality nylon in many industries and products (including automotive, outdoor high-performance and industrial products).
reSound™ OM (overmolding) thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) utilizes 40% to 50% of biorenewable ingredients in sugarcane and provides hardness and performance comparable to standard TPE. All these grades of formula: including four overmolding grades compatible with rigid polypropylene and one overmolding grade suitable for ABS, all have the same durability, performance retention and UV resistance as traditional TPE. These meet major requirements such as cosmetic packaging, personal care products and consumer electronics.
"Nymax™ PIR and reSound™ OM are both well-known and proven solutions that have been used in the North American market for some time. We are pleased to expand their products to Europe to further help our customers achieve their sustainable development Goals and better support the circular economy." Holger Kronimus, general manager of PolyOne European Engineering Materials.
