How does ethyl ethanoate industrial production take place.
The ethyl ethanoate industrial production is the part of the chemical process which involves the conversion of ethanoic acid and alcohol mix in a process called esterification. The ethyl ethanoate production is done with deodorant and non-detergent soaps, personal care, detergents and other household products.
Ethyl ethanoate is a colorless liquid which is used with antiperspirant to keep the underarm dry. The formaldehyde emission from this type of goo creates an uncomfortable smell for people around you. The ethyl ethanoate production process
1.The raw material which is commonly used in the ethyl ethanoate production process is dimer acid. This kind of acid is manufactured by condensing ethylene oxide with the hydroxyl group of glycerol. The produced chemical has many uses like solvent, plasticizer, cleaner, synthetic rubbers and solvents which are used to dissolve dyes.
2.The dimer acid produced above is mixed with ethanol and some metal catalysts i.e., Ni and Pd. These metal catalysts help in achieving maximum reaction rates of the mixed chemicals i.e. ethyl ethanoate and ethanol. The metal catalysts are dissolved in toluene and then mixed with the dimer acid and ethanol. The reaction starts when the mixture is heated at a temperature of around 60-170 ℃.
3.The main reactant ethyl ethanoate is formed by esterification of ethanol with acetaldehyde. The reaction takes place when the mixture of ethanol, dimer acid and catalyst is heated for about 3-4 hours at a temperature of 70-80 ℃ which finally produces 100% ethyl ethanoate.
4.The major product of the ethyl ethanoate industrial production process is a by-product which is hexanol. The reaction of ethanol and dimer acid produces water and acetaldehyde. The by-product hexanol is formed by the reaction of water and acetaldehyde which are further reacted to produce it at an enhanced rate.
5.The acetaldehyde produced in the ethyl ethanoate production process can be used as a starting substance for other chemical reactions as well. The acetaldehyde can also be changed into other chemicals such as formic acid and methanol. These chemicals are used in the production of formaldehyde, methanol, butanal etc.
Uses of ethyl ethanoate
1.Added to deodorant soaps and non-detergent soaps
This formaldehyde emission is the element of concern for people in the surrounding of you.
